摘要:The global village is now becoming smaller and smaller, and people on the earth long for knowing more about each other’s culture. Concededly, literary translation is the most widely accepted means to promote cultural communication between the East and the West.

meaning of this word and are familiar with the derivation, so they can easily understand the sentence in the example.
 Example 2:
         平时不烧香,临时抱佛脚。
Westerners may be puzzled with two terms: “烧香” and“佛脚”. Even though the two phrases are tranlated into English, the religious terms still remain nonsense to English readers. And there are innumerous religious terms have been cited into idioms, which always can find out in literay works and constitutes greater difficulties for translators. Thus how to deal with religious terms is an important matter in literary translation.
3.4 Cultrual Difference Due to Different Thinking Patterns
We all know that the different cognitive patterns about the outside world could influence the ways of thinking, and the cultural discrepancy in the way of thinking will result in the difference in communicative behavior, discourse structure, ways of encoding and discoding, communicative style, even morphology and syntax, which will undoubtedly bring some difficulty or conflicts in literary translation. For instance, a sharp sense of distinction is reflected in our ideas of family relationships, as in the different ranks of brothers, cousins, nephews, uncles and aunts; while the native English speakers do not make so many kinds of distinctions. Thus ,wo have “大舅子”、“小舅子”、“大伯”、“小叔”、“姐夫”、“妹夫”, etc., whereas in English, the wife’s brother, the husband’s brother, the elder sister’s husband and the younger sister’s husband are all called brother-in-law.
The different thinking patterns affect the quality of translation. The English emphasize formal logic, and the English syntactic structures are usually much more formalized and less flexible. While the Chinese do not stress formal logic as much as the English do, Chinese syntactic structures are less formalized but more flexible. If a translator follows the mode of thought of the source language in a mechanical way and neglects syntactic differences, the sentences that he puts into the target language will be unnatural and ungrammatical. In order to accomplish a natural equivalence with the source text in translation, we should first of all make a carefully study of the different modes of thought of the English and the Chinese. We should be familiar with the general connotations of abstract English words, and grasp abstract lexical devices.

Ⅳ.Translation Strategies Based on Two Theories
4.1 Two Theories: Foreignization and Domestication
Scheiermacher , the German philosopher and translator, in a lecture named“ On the Different Methods of Translating”said, “There are only two strategies to translate literary works. One is the translator leaves the author in peace as much as possible, and moves the reader toward him. The other is the translator leaves the reader in peace as much as possible, and moves the author toward him.” Lawrence Venuti named the former foreignization and the latter domestication.
 4.1.1 Foreignization
As everyone knows that Venuti is the most well-known representative of the approach of foreignization. He derived its origin in Schleiermacher’s lecture and the following’s, he also viewed this as a preferred translation strategy. According to Venuti, foreignization is “an ethnodeviant pressure on those[target-language cultural] values to register the l论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
