摘要:本文是英语翻译论文,本文以接受美学为框架,采用例证分析的方法对李正栓的英译本《水树格言》进行分析。全文共分五部分,前言部分简述了孔唐·丹白准美的生平及其主要作品、《水树格言》研究的文献综述、接受美学理论及其主要概念。

Konchok Tenpai Dronme’s erudition and brilliance scintillate through his written works. It is recorded that he wrote about twelve volumes, including altogether 170 articles, which touches upon the subjects of Tibetan
history, literature, drama, poetry, biography, arithmetic, medicine, astrology,
architecture, thangka painting and so forth. A large volume of his works contributes to elaborating on Buddhism scriptures and the guru yoga15 of major tantric deities of the Gelug tradition. However, only eleven volumes are currently extant. Among all his works, Gnomic Verses about Water and Tree remains the most prominent both at home and abroad and is highly circulated in Tibetan schools to the point that almost every Tibetan can recite the gnomic verses. The insightful thoughts of the renowned Buddhist scholar and the artistic form of the gnomic verses render Gnomic Verses about Water and Tree a high value in ethics, history and literature. Gnomic verse, a unique genre of Tibetan literature, is termed Legshe in Tibetan, which provides ethical precepts and philosophical thoughts both for Buddhist followers and seculars to ponder on. It is a popular literature genre favored by Tibetan scholars for its simplicity, conciseness and profoundness. With the spread of Buddhism into Tibetan regions and thereafter the development of Tibetan Buddhism, Buddhism gradually became the mainstream culture among Tibetan people and gnomic verses were seen as a satisfactory genre by senior monks to propagate Buddhism teachings and political opinions. The most splendid and popular Tibetan gnomic verses is Sakya Gnomic Verses composed by Sakya Pandita, the fourth of the Sakya Forefathers around the Thirteenth century. In the middle of 16th century came out Dgelan Gnomic Verses written by Sonam Drakpa, a prestigious lama of Drepung Monastery16. Following his predecessors in this tradition, Tenpai Dronme accomplished Gnomic Verses about Water and Tree around the 18th century.
