Projecting Hongkong’s image in Wong Kar-Wai's Films
1.Hongkong’s image and Wong Kar-Wai,
Film director Wong Kar-Wai is the ignored by studies on Movie industry, which mainly focus either on Ang Lee or on Yimou Zhang. In fact, Wong Kar-Wai’s unique position in Hongkong Movie industry could shed light on, further complicate, enrich and refine our understanding of the most important movement of Hongkong Cinema. The thesis will discuss two movies from Wong Kar-Wars: Chungking Express (1994) and Fallan Angels (1996). The two films turn the verge space into a heterotopia, in which encounter with the (historical and political) other makes for possible alternatives to present impasse concerning Hongkong’s future. Specially, I would like to investigate and interpret Wong Kar-Wai’s oeuvre in order to see what Wong Kar-Wai’s image of Hongkong shares with Movie industry directors and how he differs from his contemporaries.

Conclusion
In Wong Kar-Wai’s movies, his works could be divided into three periods: social critique in the 80s, dealing with political issue in the 90s and the return to Hongkong history after 2000. In retrospect, 663 and the girl in the ending of Connection by Fate has forecast Wong Kar-Wai’s self-assigned work after the millennium: returning to the root/route of Hongkong history, in order to pave the ways for Hongkong’s future.
