1. Introduction

1.1 The Background of the Study
For  a  long  time,  the  vocabulary  teaching  in  senior  high  school  English  teaching  is  too weak.  More  and  more  students  think:  more  and  more  attention  has  been  paid  to  reading comprehension  in  the  English  exam.  The  proportion  of  objective  test  question  is  becoming bigger  and  bigger  in  the  examination,  so  there  is  no  point  in  wasting  much  time  on vocabulary  learning.  It’s  a  great  pity  that  many  teachers  also  hold  this  view.  Teachers  and students  have  not  enough  understanding  of  vocabulary  function  in  language  learning.  They not  only  ignore  the  actual  language  application  ability,  but  also  ignore  that  the  vocabulary teaching should be always throughout the entire English teaching. In teaching practice, they spend  more  and  more  time  training  the  ability  of  reading  comprehension  and  examination skills,  however,  less  time  is  focused  on  vocabulary  teaching.  In  the  process  of  teaching vocabulary, it appears that there is lack of enough theory and convincing experience to guide teaching  vocabulary  and  student’s  vocabulary  learning.  This  is  mainly  reflects  in  the following aspects: For  the  general  high  school  students,  English  words’  learning  has  always  been  a stumbling block on the road of English learning. Many students, before entering high school learning,  are  interested  in  learning  English,  after  entering  high  school,  little  by  little,  as  the learning  content  is  gradually  complicated,  the  number  of  words  is  increasing,  and  learning interest  also  weakens.  Every  day  in  the  face  of  dozens  or  even  hundreds  of  new  words  in textbook,  many  students  have  the  feeling  of  frightened  and  even  lose  the  confidence  of learning. Quite a few students take language learning as a test subject, thus largely affected their learning initiative and enthusiasm. Their biggest motivation is to get high marks in the exam, so  they  attach  great  importance  to  the  knowledge  taught  by  teachers  in  the  classroom,  but lack of enthusiasm for the acquirement of the knowledge of the extracurricular.
