On the other hand, using multi-media techniques in some teaching steps may get twice the result with half the effort. For example, when we have vocabulary and grammar exercises, multi-media will show its rapid speed and large capacity which blackboard writing and slides are incomparable, so that class time can be saved and content be increased from mechanical transcription.
2. Creating Harmonious Relationship Between Teaching Materials and Methods
In the progress of teaching preparations, teachers should firstly try to understand and analyze the teaching outline and materials to ascertain teaching aims and teaching difficulties, and then to choose the most appropriate teaching method. Multimedia provides the extremely advantageous physical condition for English teaching, and provides the brand-new teaching methods for us to overcome the traditional teaching’s shortcomings. It transforms the abstract, arid content into the visual, interesting, visible content. The multimedia captures children’s interests and provides information in the form of sound and moving images that is not available in text based problems and stories. All of these will be favorable for the students to improve their faculty of observing and mental vitality. Then with the teachers' guidance and explanation, the students will obtain a comprehensive main image, thus form a concept to complete the learning. For example, when we teach the text Oprah Winfrey, some students are not familiar with the ‘talk show’. If we use a multimedia to show a program of talk show, they will feel great interest in it, and then master the knowledge easier.
3. Creating Student-centered Teaching Mode
In the last three decades, multimedia technologies have progressed by leaps and bounds. With this rapid progress,it is feasible and affordable to integrate multimedia technology into the teaching and learning process. This infusion of multimedia into teaching and learning has altered the instructional strategy in our educational institution.
The traditional mode of primary English teaching refers to face-to-face class teaching. In this class teacher uses a chalk, a book, and a blackboard to teach. The traditional teacher-centered method of teaching,which has been used for decades in our educational system,has been modified and enhanced. This traditional model of learning is based on the behavioral learning perspective.
