nalysis of the annual reports of the two companies.
Marks will be awarded to the extent that the recommendations and/or explanations are consistent
with analyses and are argued clearly and logically.
The primary criteria for grade differentials for the report include: the consistency and correctness of
calculations and analysis, the depth of the discussion of the ratio analysis and the identification of
key business fundamentals that drive changes in financial position, performance, liquidity etc.
Marks will be deducted if the report contains spelling errors, for the omission of page numbers or
the inaccurate rounding of figures. Marks will also be deducted if the report is not presented
professionally such as not referenced appropriately, not presented in the format and order required
or if it is over the maximum word limit. Marks will be awarded for demonstrated evidence of
collaboration throughout the report to create an integrated document. Marks will be deducted if the
report is a piecemeal preparation reflecting a lack of collaboration (i.e. when the report reflects that
the team members worked separately rather than as a collaborative team).
The group assignment is not optional, nor can it be completed individually. Students will form into
groups of three or four in Week 3. All students in a group must be enrolled in the same lecture
stream and contribute fairly towards the completion of the assignment, which can be supported by
evidence from group meeting minutes, emails and/or other documentation if required.
ACCT5001 Group Assignment S1 2010 Final.doc 3/03/2010 3 of 9
Part A: Data acquisition, horizontal and vertical analysis (4 marks)
Requirements:
1. Obtain the pdf versions of the 2009 Annual Reports from Blackboard, obtained from the
official website of each company:
 https://www.rfg.com.au/rfg/images/stories/financial_reports_publications_pdfs/762853.pdf?phpMyAdmin=
ZFnaOBppyi96l-WW3Bs%2CoXjn624
2. Use these Annual Reports to locate numerical data and complete the XL spreadsheet
provided on Blackboard.
3. Perform basic horizontal and vertical analysis using instructions from Chapter 14 of your
textbook (Carlon et al., 2009).
Instructions:
 Use only the consolidated figures from the financial statements and the notes to the
financial statements.
 Complete all cells of the financial statements in the XL document (except those that are
crossed-out). If an item does not exist for a company, then give the value of zero ‘0’.
 Indicate expenses and cash outflows with a negative sign. All balance sheet items are
positive.
 For items that require calculations, show those calculations as live formulas in the XL cells.
For instance, you are provided with the example of Gross Profit on the XL worksheet
provided, which is equal to the sum of Revenue from sale of goods – Cost of Sales. The
corresponding XL formula for this calculation that applies in cell D6 for Gross profit is
“=SUM(D4:D5)”. You need to apply similar types of formulas for the calculation of EBIT,
Total current assets, Total assets etc.
 For horizontal analysis use the formula for ‘Changes since base period’, in Figure 14.2, on
p.813 of the Carlon et al. 2009 text.
 DO NOT change the formatting of cells, f论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
