An Investigation of the Security Aspects of the LTE System
Abstract
In order to maintain the competitiveness of market, 3GPP started the LTE system, which provided the higher system requirements, including lower cost per bit, increasing the operational capabilities, and flexible applying the existed frequency and new frequency. So LTE (Hannes, 2006) used some advanced wireless communication technologies in the designing process, such as the flat architecture of double node, OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing), MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output), multi-user scheduling, SFN (Single Frequency Network) and interference suppression between communities. System achieved the peak speed of unlink 50Mb/s and downlink 100Mb/s, and the system’s spectral efficiency and user throughput is 2 to 4 times of 3GPP Release6 HSxPA.
Long Term Evolution (LTE) system represents the latest developing direction of UMTS standard. And as a pure packet system it has new wireless interface and architecture and its spectral efficiency is 2 times of ISDPA/HSUPA. First, the paper analyzed the main contents of LTE system’s security aspect. Second, it provided the user security architecture of LTE system and provided the NDS architecture of IP network, described the work flow of IMS AKA and illustrated the security association between terminal and P-CSCF.
