1.1 The Background of the Research
The purpose of learning English is to train students’ ability to make use of the language tocommunicate with others in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to improve students’ ability to use Englishrather than make them only pay attention to getting high scores in the examination. In our daily life, weknow how to take advantage of mother tongue to organize our words and and briefly express ourselves.And in English, the function of grammar is to make sure of the accuracy of the use of English. Thegrammar teaching in high school is to enable students to have a more comprehensive and profoundunderstanding of English, and make grammar blend into listening, speaking, reading, and writing to makeEnglish learning become easy, which can not only increase students’ scores, but also make students speakout more authentic English.To learn English well, students must learn grammar, which is a common sense obtained from manyyears’ language teaching practice. Grammar is a walking stick to cultivate students’ practical ability ofusing language. And what’s more, in the process of students’ examinations and applications of English,they cannot be separated from the grammar knowledge. According to Summer (2011), as far as manypeople concerned, learning grammar is equal to learning its forms, which is often correlated with rules,mechanical drills, and boredom. However, the New Curriculum Standard requires to change the method ofEnglish grammar teaching, avoiding students’ learning by rote, but it does not mean that teachers have togive up teaching grammar, from which we can the important role grammar plays in English learning.

1.2 The Significance of the Research
Although task-based approach has been advocated to be used in English teaching, the traditionalteaching methods are still very popular in Chinese classroom teaching. The paper means to find whetherthe application of task-based approach to English grammar teaching is more effective than the traditionalPPP teaching method.The significance of the study is that it verifies that the application of task-based approach to Englishgrammar teaching in senior high school is feasible. It can be acted as a
Reference for other teachers and itmay be conducive to their future teaching and do some related studies. The findings and the resultsobtained in this study can help teachers have a better understanding of task-based approach in grammarteaching, which can inspire them to try to make use of it in their following grammar teaching.
