1.1Objective and Significance
This
dissertation mainly revolves around the Sino-British emotional metaphor translation, using the concept of cognitive metaphor theory combining with the characteristics of emotion metaphor system (“ emotion is the event “, “emotion is power”, the concept of emotional dimension, conceptual metonymy, emotional cognitive model). As for the difficulties caused by cultural differences the author analyzes the translation, the atuhor aims to break through the limitations of a particular conceptual metaphor, from a higher level to grasp the emotional metaphor translation.
1.2Context of Research
Metaphor is widely discussed in the study of translation, as a result of cross-linguistic and cross-cultural barrier it is considered to be the problem of the translation.
“equivalence “ is the focus of the translation theory debate in a long time. The key lies in the core - meaning differences for translation. Translatability and untranslatability is also based on the concept of “equivalence”. “equivalence” has experienced from just language, text equivalent to pragmatics, society, politics, culture, communication, purpose, to the person's thought process that except for language text factors such as cognitive change. These perspectives provides the integrity of reciprocity, a higher level, more open and more realistic way.
In the traditional method of translation is still widely used today that any translation should be faithful to the original, it is mostly in essence from the linguistic form level on the conversion of two languages. For hard problems of the translation of metaphor study, it is so. Professors in the university apply the most conventional of literal translation. Many teachers are used to provide a correct version to let the students to correct comparing the version. Obviously, such a model can't respond to the complexity of the translation process.
Before cognitive linguistics, the objectivism considers the meaning as an inherent attribute of the language itself, which means the language is equivalent to the signified thing, don't depend on people's understanding of it. Subjectivism considers that meaning is purely personal. But cognitive linguistics thinks that Semantics is the product of conceptualization, it is a reflection of people's experience and cognition of things about the world, and it is a way of recognizing things with people and consistent rules.” language and the signified things can not directly be equated, but through the understanding of the human brain processes. So researching meaning must study human way of thinking and understanding, this for the meaning of translation equivalence provides a new research perspective.
To Use conceptual metaphor to explore metaphor translation essentially is from the translation process people understanding level to talk about the concept of equivalence, and on the basis to study the metaphor language reflection.
