Assignment:  Text Analysis Exercise

1.0 Introduction

Since its publication, Jane Eyre has been translated into many other languages. It had been widely read and known as one of the best in English literature. With the fame of the original, the Chinese versions of Jane Eyre have also won a great popularity.  The two versions chosen are respectively translated by Zhu Qingying and Huang Yuanshen, which are labeled as of the original. Huang's translation was first published by Yi Lin Press in 1994. Ms Pan Hong spoke highly of Huang's version (Wilss,1982). She thought the version's charm consisted in the fact that the translator attached great importance https://www.51lunwen.org/translation/ to the meaning conveyed by the form, and made the external expression and the implied meaning unified, thus reproducing the aesthetic value of the original (ibid.). In an article in Chinese Translators Journal, Liu Xinmin highly appraised Huang's version as an "almost perfect one" which read smooth and retained the flavor of the original (Saeed,2000). Besides, both the translations got reprinted for several times and are currently the best sellers among the Chinese readers.
As experienced and skillful translators, both Zhu and Huang have a good
command of the source language and the target language. Consequently, most parts of the two versions read smooth and natural. However, there appear some problems or errors here and there in their versions, some of which even seem low-leveled.

6.0 Conclusion

Though some inaccurate elements exist in them, both the versions, from a general point of view, like many other good versions, are a success and have enjoyed a wide popularity among Chinese readers. The merit of the original work is largely confused into the target language texts, from which the  Chinese readers can distinctly apprehend and strongly feel the thematic and aesthetic values of the original. However, it cannot be denied that neither of the two versions is perfect when evaluated in detail by the standard of semantic equivalence and stylistic equivalence .There are still many parts which can be improved so as to attain the goal of closest natural equivalence and to achieve the same aesthetic effect as the original.

Literary translation is a painstaking and time一consuming job, in which the translator assumes great responsibility of re一creating the original. It requires the translator acquire literary knowledge as well as linguistic knowledge and some necessary techniques (Munday,2001). At the same time, the translator should maintain a scholar attitude toward his work and improve his translation as possible as he can. Because of the differences between English and Chinese, exact equivalence is of course impossible. However, the closest natural equivalent translation is the aim that translators must s论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
