nbsp;source  text  under  normal  circumstances.  As  the  provider  of  the information,  the  source  text  is  relevant  with  the  target  text,  and  hence  the  target  text should be faithful to the source text. However, due to the difference of the translators, time and place, the translation versions which are based on the same source text can not  provide  equal  information  both  in  quality  and  quantity  as  the  original  text  does. Skopostheorie  emphasizes  that  the  degree  or  extent  of  fidelity  is  determined  by  the translation  purpose  and  the  translators’  understanding  of  the  original  text.  Therefore, in  order  to  achieve  the  translation  purpose,  the  translator  may  occasionally  sacrifice the fidelity rule to ensure the skopos rule and the coherence rule.  Yu Daoquan and Li Zhengshuan based their translation on the Chinese version of Yu  Daoquan  that  is  the  source  text  of  the  two  English  versions  and  also  the  basis  of this study. However, the translations of the two translators are various in terms of the content, form and style. To see whether their English translations are consistent with the  fidelity  rule,  the  author  will  give  a  comparative  analysis  of  the  two  English versions of Yu Daoquan and Li Zhengshuan from the following three aspects: the idea and the contents, the poetic form and rhythm, and the poetic style.

Conclusion  

This  thesis  makes  a  comparison  of  the  two  English  versions  of  Tsangyang Gyatso’s  Poems  rendered  respectively  by  Yu  Daoquan  and  Li  Zhengshuan  from  the perspective of skopostheorie. The main findings are as follows.  First,  translation  is  a  conscious  and  purposeful  activity  of  human,  and  the translators  tend  to  use  different  strategies  and  methods  to  achieve  their  own translation  purposes.  As  a  result,  even  the  same  original  text  will  produce  different versions.
