2.1 The Definition of Cooperative Learning
Since the rise of cooperative learning in the United States in 1970s, it has been more than thirty years. But because the implementation of cooperative learning in different regions and countries is not exactly the same, different regions and countries have different understanding of cooperative learning. Researchers from their respective research and the field of attention to describe and explain the cooperative learning. As a result the understanding of cooperative learning is different. For example, the American scholar George M.Jacobs(2001:3-4), who believes that cooperative learning is the most effective way to encourage students to work together. While American scholar D.W.Johnson & R.T.Johnson (2005) believes that Cooperative learning is to divide the students into groups in the teaching process, so students can work together to promote their learning to the greatest degree.

2.2 The Basic Elements of Cooperative Learning
Researchers in the world have different views on the basic elements of cooperative learning. But the five element theory of the Johnson Brothers of the United States of America is now more generally accepted. According to the theory, cooperative learning has five key elements. The primary factor of cooperative learning is positive interdependence which is the core of cooperative learning. It requires all members to assist each other to complete a task together (Slavin.R. E. 1999). Team members should not only be responsible for their own learning, but also responsible for the learning of other members of the team. People get good grades is their success, only when the other team members are successful, they will be able to succeed which requires each member in cooperative learning at the same time must bear two responsibilities, namely students not only learn how to finish the task, but only help classmates learn how to finish the task.
