摘要:本文是英语文学论文,笔者认为布克的教育理念强调学习与生活的结合,以及脑和体力劳动的结合。在他看来,真正的教育应该是基于个人和社会的需求,所以黑人教育必须重视黑人的经济地位。

The plain fact faces us, that either he will have separateschools or he will not be educated” (Du Bois 136, 1935).Before the 1920s, Du Bois actually did not welcome the idea of separateschooling. However he vigorously advocated separate schools for blacks during the1920s and 1930s.

Conclusion

W. E. B. Du Bois is one of the most influential black leaders of the latenineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He has committed his whole life to thequest for solutions to the American Negro problem. Among a variety of strategies heproposes, black education is the most valued. He contributes a lot of educationalthoughts and ideas which are specifically meant to meet the needs of AfricanAmericans. Herbert Aptheker, an expert on African American history, speakshighly of the outstanding contributions of Du Bois to black education. He considersthat in terms of the essence and purpose of black education as well as the educationaltheory, no one could be an expert more than Du Bois. As an educator, Du Bois’exploration into the Negro problem and racial development is inevitably influencedby his ideas of education, which contribute to the unique and important significanceof his philosophy of education in the history of the United States.As we can see, Booker T.Washington’s philosophy of education emphasizes thecombination of study and life, as well as the combination of brain and physical labor.In his view, real education should be based on the needs of individuals and society,so black education must pay attention to the economic status of blacks, and trainblacks to adapt to social life. He advocates vocational education and practices thisidea in his Tuskegee Institute. Booker T.Washington’s philosophy of education isundoubtedly mild, however, Du Bois chooses a more radical and uncompromisingway. Du Bois’ philosophy of education, including three aspects, namely, the purposeof black education, the contents of black education, and the ways of implementationof black education, is believed to be the way out for blacks.
