e shepherds have equal status. The emphasis on their social status affects the way weread their debates, reflecting their competing claims as rationales for the social positionsthey represent, rather than as philosophical arguments over the virtues of differentmental attitudes. The social structure at issue in the shepherds’ debate is hierarchy, ecclesiasticalsolely at the abuses of the Anglican Church; those important elements cannot beexplained by confining it to church polity. It is very common in Elizabethan culture thatthe physical labor and the important no religious authorities are debating with theideology of a divinely justified secular hierarchy. The eclogue is distinctive in howspecifically the debating shepherds, Morrell and Thomalin, respond to one another’sassertions. Each rebuts the other by either rewriting the particular authority that has justbeen invoked or presenting a matchingcounter story to nullify its effect. The specificpoint counterpoint procedure draws attention to the verbal practice the shepherds use, making the eclogue draws attention to the verbal practices the shepherds use, makingthe eclogue a virtual Antony of the processes by which social institutions are legitimated,a dramatization of how authority is mobilized to either support or critique socialstructures. The woodcut also draws attention to the differences in the shepherds’flocks, whichluborsky finds” contrasted more clearly here than in any other cut. Morrell’s are unrulyand unattended, while Thomalin’s are grouped together obediently.” This contrast alertsus that hierarchy will be examined in its relationship to social responsibility and in fact,Thomalin’s initial speech does just that, linking Morrll’s elevated status as “a goteheardprowde, that sittes on yonder bancke” with the abandoned.

Conclusion
Spenser recognized The Shepheardes Calender as his own financial and politicalgains, but it also sets the idea of standing behind the work. The work was a success, because the work separates the poem from others of its time. And it included Spenser’suse of allegory and his dependence on the idea of antiquity. The poem also set theground work for Spenser’s best known work The Faerie Queene. The ShepheardesCalendar is an early poem by Spenser, it is still great and famous work in literature
history. And it was also crucial to the naturalization of the English Language and theintroduction of vocabulary along with literary techniques.Although Spencer used myth, metaphors, light and color to praise Elizabeth I,through the interpretation of woodcut and the text in other eclogues, we can find that hispraise for the Queen is only part of his ideas. The Shepheardes Calender also reflectsthe patronage and political dimension. Only the Crown has the right to force people toobey them, however, the Crown just care about the benefit of their own group. The poorwere ignored and exploited by the upper class. Because of the integration of politics andreligion, the upper class took advantages of religion as a political footwork which isunfair to divide the social class by the will of god. Based on different classes, interestsand religious beliefs, Spenser and others’ political attitude towards the Crown arecomplicated in Elizabethan ages. The Shepheardes Calender is not just a great work ofpraise for the Queen and shepherds’ pastoral lives. It contains varies fables, colors, visual images which reflect cultu
