Urban Housing Stock is expected to add 2.0 million units per year and grow at a CAGR of 2.6 percent in phase IV. Urban housing stock had increased at a CAGR of 2.9 percent during phase II and at a diminished CAGR of 1.9 percent during phase III due to weak demand resulting from the economic slowdown.

According to KPMG Analysis Report the total households required in the country are as under:

Nearly 12 million households (owned / rented) in the INR 0.2 – 1.0 million per annum category.

4– 5 million of these are in urban areas assuming 34 - 40 percent urbanization.

2.1 million houses required in seven major cities alone for LIG and MIG population.

This translates into a potential opportunity of close to INR 3 trillion.

Including the EWS category, this number more than doubles to INR 7.5 trillion.
