摘要:本文是英语词汇学论文,In the Internet age, affluent online learning materials are convenient for students’ learning. This thesisstudied the online vocabulary learning software and evaluate it. The study is important for the followingreasons.

Chapter I Introduction


1.1 Research background
Nowadays, with the huge impact of globalization and the development of society in all walks of life,English, the most widely used language in the world, becomes increasingly important. In China, the mostimportant foreign language study is English study. Most students in school at various levels accept Englishas their compulsory course, even the kindergarten education has added English in its curriculum. TheEnglish level of the whole nation, compared with that of two decades ago, improves considerably. MoreEnglish magazines, TV programs, and training schools, etc. spring up to meet the demand of English learners.The current learning environment of English is encouraging.Low vocabulary ability is one of the main obstacles to China’s college students’ English learning, theproblems of reading comprehension, listening comprehension and writing practice, are mostly caused bypoor ability of vocabulary. For the poor vocabulary or understanding ability and other reasons, that thestudents are difficult to accurately express their own thoughts, unable to communicate with others smoothly,cannot be effectively obtain information from articles, students often complain about vocabulary memory,and forgetting fast. The British scholar H.pierson(1990) wrote that although most Chinese college studentshave studied 14 years of English, a lot of people are still not sure to read the original text, and their onlydifficulty is caused by the words, thus, the lack of vocabulary has become the bottleneck of English learning.If students cannot master and proper use a number of words, that students really master a foreign languagewill become a castle in the air. During the teaching activities, students, as one of the main body, want toconduct effective vocabulary learning, that vocabulary learning strategies should not be ignored.

1.2 Significance of the study
In the Internet age, affluent online learning materials are convenient for students’ learning. This thesisstudied the online vocabulary learning software and evaluate it. The study is important for the followingreasons. First of all, the study can convenient the teachers who are prefer the online learning, it enriched theteacher’s teaching resources. Second, it would help the college students who are interest in onlinevocabulary learning. The most important, the study has made the experiment of online vocabularylearning to prove its study effect, and it also can help other researchers to study online vocabulary learningmaterials in the future. This thesis includes five chapters. Firstly, chapter one refers to background information and introducethe significance of this study. Then in chapter two, the author give a literature review of the previousresearch on vocabulary learning and CALL in English teaching. That is the theoretical basic of this thesis.Then chapter three introduces the methodology of this research, which include the research instruments andthe procedures. Chapter four, with the quantitive data analysis results to explain the research questions.Chapter five give a conclusion to the major findings of the study and the implications for online vocabularylearning and teaching in China and it also illustrate the limitations of this study.
