1. Introduction

In this case, Tartan Power Limited (hereinafter as TPL), a gas turbine repair and overhaul company based in Scotland, is trying to grab the good opportunities and expand their market in Jakarta, Indonesia. Though they have experience in operating business in other countries and expertise in this field, they are not sure about the appropriate ways to do business in Indonesia where the business environment is complicated. Therefore, they are prepared to set up a joint venture and a repair shop. And now they are considering problems they would meet in terms of technology, equipment transfer, IPR of the equipment, personnel training and so on in a geographical market like Jakarta. So this essay is targeted to help TPL to find out the best solution. With this aim, the research will follow a structure as follows:
In chapter one, it will highlight the intentions of TPL, which in general, is to set up a repair shop in Indonesia providing they can be assured of control in terms of business, finance, quality and technical capability. Based on this, it will try to do analysis about how to ensure that setting up a joint venture can fulfill these requirements of Tartan Power Limited in Indonesia.
Second, based on the best solutions come up with by the researcher, which is to set up a joint venture under certain preconditions and regulations, the essay will further explain how TPL can make progress in terms of management structure, export controls, technical support, transport of equipment, training of local personnel, choice of law, ethical business-- local custom, insurance, the impact of the U.S Foreign Corrupt Practice Act and the proposed new UK Bribery Bill/Act.

2. Tartan Power Limited
TPL is a gas turbine repair and overhaul company based in Scotland. They have some experience in overseas markets given the nature of the business in which they operate.
