根据文本类型理论，技术文本属于信息型文本，应遵循交际翻译。在翻译实践中，作者发现英汉语言表达方面有诸多不同，于是使用翻译技巧来提高译文可读性。词汇层面，译文使用増译和转换词性的翻译技巧，解决了固定搭配缺失以及惯用词性使用差异问题。句法层面，作者遇到了长难句和被动语态翻译不当，原文语义重复及结构松散的问题，于是使用分译、转换句型、减译、合译的翻译技巧来一一化解。语篇层面，重组可以有效解决原文逻辑不清、语序混乱的情况，转换语篇结构可以有效解决原文语篇结构不当的问题。

Chapter I Introduction

1.1 Background of the Task

With the deep trade cooperation between Chinese manufacturers of railway airconditioners and foreign manufacturers of vehicles, technical communication betweentwo trade parties is of great importance for it influences the design, manufacture, delivery,etc. In view of existing language barriers between two parities, technical translationfunctions as a bridge that can narrow misunderstandings resulting from differentlanguages and cultures.

Technical requirements specification was translated during the author’s internship inShijiazhuang King Transportation Equipment Co., Ltd, the largest professionalmanufacturer of railway air conditioning in China. It was sent by the customer of King inEnglish to convey technical requirements of the project, design, products, tests, qualityassurance, operation and maintenance and so on to King’s engineers so that they coulddesign the HVAC (Heating, ventilating, air conditioning) unit for the new AutomatedPeople Mover Vehicle. Consequently, the translation plays an important role in the wholeprocess of the project.

1.2 Significance of the Task

With the surging cooperation between domestic and foreign companies in the realmof the manufacturing, technical translation has become inevitable. In recent years,translators who engaged in technical translation have increased. Nevertheless, the qualityof most technical translation cannot be guaranteed and theoretical research on it is scant.Moreover, as the technical requirements specification on railway air conditioner is a kindof confidential text, the research on this area is relatively few. As a consequence, bearingthe purpose of improving the quality of technical translation and providing somereference for following researchers who also want to explore technical translation inmind, the author shed light on it by writing this practice report.

The practice report is composed of five chapters. The first chapter is the introductionthat conveys the background, structure and significance of the translation report. Thesecond chapter is the theoretical framework that presents Peter Newmark’s text typology theory and its application in Translation Practice. The third chapter is the translationprocess including pre-translation preparation, while-translation process andpost-translation revision. In the pre-translation preparation, features of source text havebeen analyzed, bilingual glossary has been expanded by referring to digital and paperdictionaries, some parallel texts have been read to keep company’s idiomatic expressionin mind and the translation plan has been drew up. In translation process, many problemsconfronted by the author are mainly mistranslation of terms and abbreviations, impropertranslation of long and complex sentences and even discourse structure. And then, selfproofreading, peer proofreading and professional proofreading have been conducted bythe author.
