摘要:本文是一初中英语教学论文,本研究采用问卷调查和访谈等研究方法,旨在了解上海市外语中学英语分级阅读的现状,探讨学校实施英语分级阅读的效果、学生阅读能力的变化以及学生面临的困难。

erbs, and selections from  Shakespeare  and  the  tone  of  them  is  moralistic,  extolling  patriotism,  good behavior, religion, and games and sports. The famous McGuffey readers are graded collections of didactic tales and excerpts from great books, reflecting McGuffey’s view that the  proper  education  of  students  required  predecessors’  introduction to  a  wide variety of topics and practical matters. McGuffey Readers became standard texts in nearly all the United States, eclipsing all rival textbook publications for half a century and reaching a reputed total sale of over 150 million copies between 1840 and 1900. In the 1920s, many different graded reading systems appeared in the West. Only in the 1930s did graded reading books had exact grading standards (Wang & Qi, 2021).

Development of graded reading can be classified as four major phases: (1) Inexact graded reading phase, represented by McGuffey Readers/McGuffey Eclectic Readers mentioned above; (2) Quantitative graded reading phase, represented by Flesh-Kincaid Readability  Formula;  (3)  Qualitative  graded  reading  phase,  represented  by  Guided Reading Levels; (4) Qualitative + Quantitative + Reader and Task graded reading phase, represented by Common Core State Standards(CCSS)in US(Wang & Qi ,2021).

4.1 The Current Status of English Graded Reading

After arranging and analyzing the results of the questionnaire and the interview, English graded reading’s current status in the school surveyed can be learned and the overall situation is summarized below.

Results and discussion of the questionnaire and interview will be presented in this chapter. First of all, questions aim to collect the basis information of students surveyed and  the  frequency  and  quantity  of  English  graded  reading.  Secondly,  the implementation of English graded reading of X school are analyzed. Thirdly, based on the analysis of the results of questionnaire, the impacts of graded reading on students’ reading character and reading ability are presented.
