The psychological foundation of CA is behaviorism psychology.Based on behaviorismpsychology,CA believes that errors in foreign language acquisition are the result of thenegative transfer of learners’original mother tongue knowledge.In behaviorist psychology,language is regarded as a habit,and foreign language acquisition also means the acquisitionof a new habit.In the process of acquiring new habits,the original old habits will inevitablyaffect the acquisition of new ones,so will the acquisition of foreign language.Thephenomenon that the original mother tongue knowledge has an impact on the learning ofnew target language knowledge is called“transfer”.According to the influence of transfer,itcan be divided into positive and negative transfer.

4.1 Distribution of Errors in Students’English Writings

This part mainly deals with the distribution and number of students’writing errors interms of the eleven error dimensions in each grade of junior middle school,and also analyzesdifferences of writing errors between high and low-scored compositions in the same gradeand the differences of writing errors in different grades.

4.1.1 Distribution of Students’Writing Errors in Each Grade

Adopting the error classification method in CLEC by Gui Shichun and Yang Huizhong(2003),this paper divides writing errors into 11 dimensions:lexical errors(fm),word errors(wd),syntactic errors(sn),verb phrase errors(vp),noun phrase errors(np),collocationerrors(cc),pronoun errors(pr),preposition errors(pp),adjective errors(aj),adverb errors(ad)and conjunction errors(cj).After coding the writing errors,with the help of AntConc3.5.8(Windows),the number of errors in each grade are retrieved and counted from these 11dimensions.The results are shown in Table 4-1.

5.1 Major Findings

This study investigates the writing errors of junior middle school students,by analyzing300 mid-term examination compositions in the three grades of No.1 Junior Middle School ofWuhan ETDZ with the help of the corpus retrieval software AntConc 3.5.8(Windows).Theresearch mainly presents the following findings.
