4.1.1 Distribution of Cultural Teaching Contents
The English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(2022 edition)[4]stresses the importance of the cultivation of students’cultural awareness and regards itas a guarantee to use language appropriately in communicative situations.The Englishcurriculum standard also proposes that the teacher should provide enough culturalteaching content to help students understand the differences about the culturalphenomena in different cultures,and then strengthen their national identification andcultural confidence.The frequency and percentages of four kinds of cultural teachingcontents involved in the demonstration lessons are represented in Table 4-1.
As shown in Table 4-1,in 19 demonstration lessons,cultural knowledgeappeared 113 times,accounting for 66.9%;cultural skill appeared 25 times,accounting for 14.7%;cultural emotion occurred 23 times,accounting for 13.5%;cultural behavior occurred 9 times,accounting for 5.3%.
Chapter 5 Conclusions
5.1 Major Research Findings
This thesis observed the teachers’culture teaching in demonstration lessons anddrew corresponding conclusions based on class observation and discourse analysis.Firstly,the main research findings related to cultural teaching contents are asfollow.
(1)Among the four types of cultural teaching contents,the frequency of culturalknowledge is more than the total frequency of cultural skill,cultural emotion,andcultural behavior in 19 demonstration lessons.The distribution of cultural teachingcontents is unbalanced.
(2)As for the frequency of different countries’cultures in demonstration lessons,it can be concluded that English teachers attach importance to Chinese cultures.Whatis more,the frequency of various cultures from America and Britain is more thanother foreign countries’.
