reat progress, there still are such teaching practices that only payattention to cognition but neglect affection in junior schools’ English teaching and learning at present. Forexample, in order to meet the needs of the examination-oriented education, the teachers make studentsfinish simulation test papers mechanically day by day, without considering their interest and needs; as aresult,many students are becoming tired of learning. To meet the need of learning English, the governmentis making more and more effort to improve their classroom teaching and provide more learning strategiesto help students’ self-study ability.
1.2 Research motivation and objectives研究动机和目标
Student- student interaction is an effective study pattern in the junior middle school; however there aremany problems with it that has a bad influence on the implementation; therefore it is important to find outthem, which we can avoid in our class in the future.Through the research and analysis of the situation of junior middle school, English teaching and theteaching idea, principle, method and means advocated in the junior high school English class, the teachercan find the main problems in the junior middle school English teaching in order to avoid these mainproblems and then to improve the teachers' ability to reform teaching experiment and to use the English, tohelp students improve their interest in learning English, and develop good habits of studying, and tocultivate scientific learning strategies to improve their learning ability; therefore, to make thestudent-student interaction can work effectively as following in the English class.(1). Student-student interaction can not only help the student to obtain cognitive development, but alsostimulate their interest in the study process, meet their psychological needs to outstand teaching affectionfunction. It also pays attention to students’ non-intelligence quality training and development to pursuestudents’ harmonious development between the wisdom and love (Jin, 2005).(2) It can cultivate students' cooperation consciousness and team spirit to make them feel the power ofcollective wisdom, to teach them share the happiness of success, and to make them experience the fun oflearning (Meng, 2004).(3) It can cultivate students’ ability to change their roles appropriately, such as "management", "theconsultants", "participants" and many other kinds of roles, to improve the validity of classroom teaching(Cai, 2005).
1.3 An overall structure of the paper
This
thesis begins with a review of the background of student-student interaction in the commonjunior middle school, the research motivation and objectives and the structure of the thesis. Chapter Two ofthe thesis describes the
literature review, including the patterns of interaction, the definition and theprinciple of student-student interaction, differences between the pair-work and the group-work, and Socialconstructivist theory. Chapter Three presents the design of a project including research questions, researchparticipants, research methods and procedures. Chapter Four explains the results and discussion of theinterview and classroom observation. And the last chapter presents major findings, pedagogicalimplications and the limitations and prospects of the thesis.
