The assignment
You are the Sports Development Manager (Participation) for a Scottish governing body of sport [you choose which governing body]. Your organisation has recently received from sportscotland the report: Sports Participation in Scotland 2007, Research Digest no. 108. Available on the sportscoltand website

The Chief Executive of your organisation has requested you produce a report based on the findings in the sportscotland document for your sport in Scotland. The purpose of the report will be to inform the organisation of the state of your sport and assist with policy making decisions about participation.
The report should describe the state of your sport and should include analysis of the profile of the sport over time.
You may make reference to other sports if you feel this is necessary, but be aware that this is a report about your sport.
The task will require you to:

• Provide a short introduction to the report;

• Study and analyse the survey findings;

• Describe the survey findings for your chosen sport;

• Present the survey data in an accessible format;

• Draw conclusions based on the survey data.

The report should be between 1,500 and 2,000 words.
Notes:

• You need to select the sport for which you are the Sports Development Manager (Participation).

• You will not be able to describe all of the data presented in the sportscotland report; therefore you will need to decide on the focus for your report. The focus of the report is your choice.

• You are free to choose the format and the style for the presentation of the data (e.g. tables; bar charts/pie charts/line diagram; colour/mono).

• Appropriate use should be made of headings and sub-headings.

• You can make reference to other sources of data/literature where considered appropriate; however, this is not necessary to fulfil the requirements of the assignment. The important aspect of the assignment is to describe and analyse the data in the sportscotland report.

• Students should attempt to draw conclusions and, where appropriate, make recommendations based on the survey findings.

• It is not a requirement that all the data provided in the tables needs to be presented in the report. Students must decide what data is relevant depending on how they choose to report the findings.
