Abstract
This dissertation was written to analyze the roles of play in Chinese kindergartens. In order to conduct the analysis, the contents of chapter 2 to chapter 4 served as a theoretical background. First, three influential scholars’ views on play were introduced: Vygotsky, Piaget, and Bronfenbrenner. Based on their theories, the play behaviors were analyzed according to age differences. Then in chapter 4, the importance of play in children’s physical and mental development was discussed.
