Education and the college entrance examination have influence the English teaching of China. Therefore, there are some problems of English grammar teaching in the current senior high school. On the one hand, under the exam-oriented education and the influence of the grammar-translation method, some teachers teach English with grammar for the teaching center. They just make a list of the grammar items and then students just cram the items. On the other hand, some teachers misunderstand the New Curriculum. They lose the sight of grammar teaching, so the knowledge of students’ English grammar is incomplete. The overlook of grammar also influences students’ ability of speaking, writing and reading. Therefore, the students just remember the grammar items and they got a good result in the examination. Nevertheless, they cannot use it in the practical applications. As a result, senior high school students lack the ability of oral English and communication. Hence, how to change the dull English grammar teaching into the vivid and interesting one, so that the students can not only learn it well but also use it in daily life. This is the problem, which is needed to be solved now.
1.2 Backgrounds and Purpose of the Thesis
The study of English grammar teaching abroad has achieved a very high level. Chomsky has made a huge contribution to English grammar teaching. In China, many scholars have published the study of English grammar teaching, such as Zhang Cuixia, Xu Long and Li Fengmei. Most of those studies are mainly about the problems that current English grammar teaching has existed or about the advice in solving the problems. There is not a feasible way or a specific teaching model that can improve the quality of English grammar teaching.
Therefore, a specific teaching plan is necessary for solving the problem of English grammar teaching in current senior high school. This teaching plan based on the successful teaching model B-SLIM. Dr. Bilash set it up. She is a professor from Alberta University in Canada. According to its successful application at home and abroad, English grammar teaching should combine the successful teaching model B-SLIM in senior high school. At the same time, we all know that the importance of teaching plan. So a clear teaching plan can help teachers easily understand that how to use B-SLIM in grammar teaching.
In short, the model and the plan of teaching are very important for English grammar teaching. The successful teaching model and the clear teaching plan will improve the level and quality of English grammar teaching.
1.3 The Structure of the Thesis
This research presents in four parts. Part one is a brief introduction to this thesis. It includes significance of the thesis, the purpose of the thesis and the structure of the thesis. Part Two is the literature review. This part presents a specific introduction about the situation of the study of English grammar teaching.
