Word-formation errors generally possess distinctive features, so the case that many learners make the same errors is rare. Taking the word-formation errors in the compositions for example:
newspaper > news paper, north campus > northern school area, everlasting > long-lasting (2 times), Empire State Building > empire-building, the School of Foreign Studies > Foreign School of Studies (2 times), undeveloped > underdeveloped, deep-rooted > taking-grouted, six-story> six-storied, garden of cherry blossom > garden of cherry, etc..
2.1.3 Capitalization Errors
Generally speaking, capitalization errors link with punctuation marks. The first letter of each sentence in English should be capitalized. The letter after a comma should be a small letter. Besides, the proper name must be capitalized. Here are some capitalization errors that occur in students’ compositions.

2.2 Collocation Errors and the Relevant Statistics
According to the definition of collocation stated by Benson et al. (1986), collocation is mainly divided into two types: one is grammatical collocation, which refers to the collocation between content words(verb, noun, adjective) and prepositions, such as, fight against, in a sense, be filled with, make a deal, etc.; the other is lexical collocation. Lexical collocation is a composite unite which permits the substitutability of items for at least one of its constituent elements.
2.2.1 Grammatical Collocation Errors
Grammatical collocation errors mainly result from learners’ incompleteness or confused by so many different collocation rules. The following table is about the error statistics of the collocation between verbs and prepositions, nouns and prepositions, adjectives and prepositions.

2.2.2 Lexical Collocation Errors
According to the restricted conditions of lexical collocation, it can be classified as free collocation and fixed collocation. Free collocation means each element of the phrase can be substituted by other items at random. Most of learners’ lexical errors in compositions belong to the free collocation. This kind of errors mainly comes from the transition from Chinese to English. On the contrary, in the fixed collocation phrase, no words can be changed. If any item was changed, the meaning of the whole phrase would totally change. For example, “to kick the bucket” means“to the death”, though the literal sense is “踢木桶”.
