In the novel, the author portrays significant differences of wealth and reputation between different social classes through the demonstration of characters and those differences play a significant role in affecting the development of the courtship between Darcy and Elizabeth. Social differences are also highlighted between the different classes. This is clearly shown in the novel through the demonstration between Darcy and Elizabeth that the wealthy and the socially inferior form prejudices against each other that blind them from each others true virtues. It is one of the specific aims that the social class structure at the time is criticized and the novel also portrays the social culture and situation of a country in the era.
