摘要:本文是一篇高中英语教学论文,根据课堂观察和访谈,广西高中英语新手教师的教师话语有一些主要的发现。新手英语教师的教师话语时间比学生长。新手英语教师在英语教学中使用的英语不多。英语新手教师使用的评价方式和反馈方式的类型并没有尽可能的多样化。显然,在新手英语教师的课堂上,展示性问题多于参照性问题。新手教师在课堂设计和控制方面都比较薄弱。因此,英语新手教师今后应该提高他们使用教师话语的能力。

本文是一篇高中英语教学论文,本文对英语新手教师的教师话语进行了研究,重点研究了英语新手教师的现状。显然,这是一个案例研究。研究样本有限。本研究选取了3名高中新手教师作为研究对象。虽然这三位新手教师来自两所不同的高中,但研究样本不够广泛。

Chapter 1 Introduction


1.1 The Background of the Study

For nearly all Chinese students, they learn English as a second language inschool’s English classroom. In English class, a main place for students to learnEnglish, teacher talk is used to lead, guide and help them to acquire English ability.According to The New Curriculum Standards for High School English (2017),English teachers should develop students’ language ability, cultural awareness,thinking ability and learning ability, which requires teachers to be able to design andcontrol the English class. It is known that English is not only the contents of the class,but also a powerful medium for teachers to organize and control the class. Teachertalk, English teacher talk in particular, plays an important role in leading students,instructing language knowledge, organizing classroom, and interacting with students.

No matter what changes have been taken place or will be taken place in teachinggoals, in contents, in teaching methods, in curriculum requirements, and in otheraspects of English curriculum, English teachers always influence class organizationand students’ English learning process. Of all factors that affect English teachingreform, the improvement of teacher’s quality is the most critical one. According toThe Opinions on Comprehensively Deepening the Construction and Reform of theTeaching Staff in the New Era (2018), it is required to cultivate a high-qualityprofessionalized teaching staff and to keep improving teachers’ professional quality.Since the teacher’s quality includes teacher’s professional skills, the proper use oflanguage or teacher talk can greatly improve teacher’s professional skills. It demandsthat teachers should use adequate teacher talk to promote classroom interaction andincrease students’ language output, so the teachers can contribute to students’ secondlanguage acquisition.

1.2 Purposes of the Study

Teacher talk is both a main source to acquire comprehensive input for seniorhigh school students, and a dispensable part for language acquisition and teaching inthe English as Foreign Language (EFL) Classroom. As for teacher talk, there is a bigdifference between English teachers and those teachers who engaged in the teachingof other subjects. On one hand, teacher talk helps teachers to disseminate knowledgeto their students. On the other hand, teacher talk plays a positive role in improvingstudents’ communication ability and promoting the target language acquisition. That’swhy teacher talk has drawn attention from scholars at home and abroad. However, thestudy of teacher talk is far from sufficient nowadays. In this case, it is useful andhelpful to study the current situation of novice teachers’ talk. Therefore, this thesisstudies and analyzes novice teachers’ teacher talk in senior high schools to reveal thecurrent situation of novice teachers’ teacher talk and to find out relevant reasons toprovide some useful and practical suggestions for novice teachers in English teaching.
