2.2 Theoretical Basis

This  research  is  carried  out  based  on  English  Curriculum  Standards  for  Senior High Schools (2017 Edition), the Sapir-Wolf hypothesis, intercultural communication theory and Tyler’s curriculum theory. 

According to the goal of level 7 and level 8 in English Curriculum Standards for Senior  High  Schools  (2017  Edition),  it  can  be  concluded  that  cultural  knowledge refers  to  the  language  countries’  customs,  politics,  religion,  and  so  on.  Cultural understanding emphasizes the understanding of target language  countries’ culture on the  basis  of  cultural  knowledge,  so  evaluating  students’  cultural  understanding  is necessary.  When  it  comes  to  cultural  teaching  awareness,  evaluation  awareness  is advised  to  be  involved,  as  intercultural  communication  awareness  and  intercultural communication  ability  is  the  ultimate  goal  of  cultural  teaching  (Chen  Shen,  2017).
