本文是一篇高中英语教学论文,本研究目前在建构主义学习理论和人本主义学习理论下进行。一项为期三个月的教学实验在XXX县的两个高中一年级班级进行。
1 Introduction
1.1 Research Background
According to the English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools (2020), the average senior high school English course is linked to mandatory learning and use of English. Its primary objective is to provide a solid foundation for students to continue learning and developing their English skills throughout their lives. One of the most important learning content in the English learning process is reading. English reading teaching includes many aspects. Such as topic context, text type, reading topic type, reading strategy, and reading method. Many factors affect English reading, such as reading attitude, reading interest, and reading motivation. Therefore, the study of English reading is a necessary process. There are, however, a number of problems in English reading education today. Reading instruction in the current situation focuses more on language knowledge than on reading skills. The reading teaching model is limited to teachers’ teaching and ignores the formation of students’ learning strategies. From the current situation of reading learning, reading comprehension is the shortcoming of students in English learning. Here are some instances of manifestations: students are challenged to grasp the main idea of the article, do not understand the details of the article appropriately, cannot continue reading after encountering obscure words, and have a weak logical reasoning ability in the article.
This study tries to use the Presentation, Assimilation, and Discussion Model (also known as the PAD Class Model), proposed by Professor Zhang Xuexin of Fudan University in 2014. Meanwhile, this study attempts to adapt this model to senior high school English reading teaching by combining the actual situation of senior high school teaching with the specific academic requirements of the class. The purpose of this study is to explore a more efficient way of teaching English reading. The PAD Class Model’s teaching notion relates to the duality of class time as well as the dichotomy of teaching and learning.
1.2 Research Purpose
Therefore, it is imperative to adopt appropriate teaching methods to improve students’ English reading ability. According to this new teaching model, the teaching process is divided into three steps based on time. Meanwhile, it also facilitates the teaching of teachers, the internal absorption of students, as well as group discussion. The purpose of this research is to use the PAD Class Model to teach English reading to Senior One in Senior High School in XX County, XXX, to discover a more successful English reading teaching model.
2 Literature Review and Theoretical Foundation

Reading is defined differently by foreign scholars. According to Goodman (1967), reading is a selective process in which available minimal language clues are selected from perceptual information according to the readers’ expectations. As this incomplete data is evaluated, preliminary decisions are made, which will be affirmed, rejected, or adjusted as the reading progresses.
