THE
research proposal
Your research
Proposal can come in various forms. However, the proposal should include the following:
The Title of the Project
An Introduction
o Background
o Problem Statement
o Significance of the proposed study
o Potential beneficiaries of the project
?An indication of preliminary
literature review
?A statement of the research question
?Proposed research methods
?Proposed analysis
?An action plan and timetable (although this can wait till you meet with your supervisor) ?A statement of the limitations of the project
?
References (if any, at this stage)
That is one form. Another form that your proposal might take is as follows:
. Introduction
?General Overview of what the research will be about
?Statement on the purpose and significance of the study
?Problem statement
?Statement of the research questions I hypotheses
?Statement on the design and research method of the study
?A brief exposition of the chapters
Either form is fine. Our advice is that you should start thinking of the scope of your project sooner, rather than later.
Please refer to Draft Guidelines for
Research Proposals on the following page.
