1.1 Background of the study研究背景
全面和职业知识分子与调用,高等职业教育迅速发展。为了满足需要,高职英语课程教学基本要求“进行了修订,于2006年。经修订的目的是培养学生的整体英语能力,包括输入和输出能力。此外,它也强调学生的实践能力With the calling for comprehensive and vocational intellectuals, higher vocationaleducation developed rapidly. In order to meet the need, Higher Vocational EnglishCurriculum Basic Requirements was revised in 2006. The revised one aims to developstudents’ overall English abilities, both input and output ability included. In addition, italso emphasizes students’ practical ability. Thus, it is crucial for higher vocational collegestudents to improve English writing ability, and there should be some differences inEnglish writing teaching methods.As we know, English writing is a productive skill, which could picture students’development of English ability. Many researchers and scholars emphasize the importanceof English Writing. Wen (1996) has viewed English writing ability as an importantcriterion for qualified person in the 21stcentury. Brooke and Grundy (2000) once arguedthat no one would deny the importance of spoken language, there was no reason to ignorethe significance of written mode. Greenia (1992, cited in Wu Hongyun, 2004) maintainedthat second language writing could facilitate language learning and promote students’thinking competence. Unfortunately, Higher vocational college students are littleconscious of the importance of English writing, and they are unwilling to make greatefforts to improve writing performance,https://www.51lunwen.org/guidelines/ because they think it costs time and energy topractice their writing. So we can find that their English ability has always been theweakest among the five basic language skills, although they have been taught to write inclassroom writing course for many years. Consequently, students may feel frustrated formaking less progress in their writing. Thus, it is urgent for teachers in higher vocationalcollege to consider the issue on how to help the students to improve their writing ability.The author of the dissertation revisits traditional teaching approach. In the traditionalteaching approach, teachers tend to overemphasize the importance of linguistic knowledgeand writing theory while ignoring the cultivation of the student’s autonomous learningability. In English writing class, teachers often make the students focus on the knowledgeabout the format of a composition, the function of punctuations and the organization of anarticle rather than the practice of writing. Consequently, students have less opportunity towrite, needless to say that they could get enough help from their teachers during theprocess of writing. The traditional teacher-centered teaching approach has itsdisadvantages: 1) The linguistic knowledge and writing theory taught are so boring as tolower their interests in writing. 2) Teachers teach writing knowledge with the direction ofsyllabus, ignoring their real need for improving writing competence. 3) Students arespoon-fed, and their ability of imagination and creation are killed.
