Chapter 1 Introduction  

1.1 Background of the research

The  study  of  classroom  talk  is  one  of  the  most  important  fields  in  educational researches.  It  is  a  very  broad  concept,  including  teacher talk,  student  talk,  teacher-student interaction,  and  even  classroom  gossip.  In  the  context  of  China,  the  English  used  in English  class  is  more  special.  English  is  not  only  the  purpose  of  learning,  but  also  the medium  of  teaching.  English  teachers'  classroom  teaching  language  directly  affects  the quality  and  level  of  education.  However,  in  the  reality  of  classroom  teaching,  teachers often lack the mastery of the effectiveness of classroom  talk; it is difficult to improve the quality of teaching to meet the requirements of the standard. Therefore, it is very important to  analyze  and  study  the  effectiveness  of  English  classroom  talk  in  senior  high  school under the standard.
