The research problems in the paper are:
(1) Can mind mapping stimulate students’ interest in vocabulary?
(2) Can the application of mind mapping improve students' performance in vocabulary?
CHAPTER TWO LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 About Mind Mapping
2.1.1 Definition
Mind Mapping was firstly proposed the British educator Tony Buzan in 1960. It provides an effective way of taking notes and is also called Mind Maps. College student Tony Buzan came to the library for help after encountering difficulties with information sorting and memory. However, he found that there were no books on how to use the brain (Buzan, 1974). Thus, mind mapping was first used by Tony Buzan for 'learning disabilities' and 'loss of reading ability', turning some students who were regarded as failures into excellent ones. Mind mapping is a visual representation tool and a revolutionary way of thinking, which can express the radioactive thinking of our brain at a deeper level (Buzan, 2000). Mind mapping is a new mode of thinking. It is a note-taking tool used to record divergent thinking. Mind mapping integrates the concept of the whole brain, enhances thinking ability, and inspires association and creativity (Buzan, 2004). It is a tool that assists people in thinking about complex issues, a thinking tool that can represent complex information (Warwick & Kershner, 2006).
The research on mind mapping in our country started late. Mind mapping was first introduced into China in a book in 1998, but before 2004, mind mapping did not attract much attention in China. It was not until 2005 that Tony Buzan came to China and gave a series of lectures on mind mapping. Since then, Chinese scholars have successively begun to study mind mapping. Since the introduction of mind mapping into our country, domestic scholars have conducted discussions and experiments with theories and practices. First of all, in terms of theory, domestic scholars discussed the concept of Mind Mapping and Concept Maps and the similarities and differences between the two. For example, Zhao (2012) defined mind mapping as a kind of thinking that can stimulate people's thinking and organize thinking tools. This thinking tool has the characteristics of visualization and non-linearity. Zhao and Lu (2004) analyzed several different viewpoints on the two, then examined the similarities and differences between the two in detail, and tried to extend the concepts of the two to better combine them.
2.2 Types of Mind Mapping
From the aspect of the structure of mind mapping and the logic between words, mind mapping can be divided into four types. These four types are diagram, radiation, hierarchy, and the chain type.
(1) Diagram
The structure of the diagram is the most widely used form and the simplest way in English vocabulary. In this way, a word or a graph is used as a central point to explain it directly, refine each word, and form a systematic picture explanation diagram, as shown in Figure 2-1. According to the diagrammatic structure, many patterns of mind mapping can be con本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
