1. Introduction

1.1 Structure of this Report
The report consists of four parts. The first part is introduction. It mainly introduces thestructure of this report, background of the source text, and the relations between thedevelopment of science and technology and the producing of new computer terms. Thesecond part presents some major methods of the formation of computer terms with examplesof computer terms in Digital Art Techniques for Illustrators & Artists. These word-formationmethods include compounding, blending, affixation and etc. The third part analyzes thetranslation methods of the computer terms, such as literal translation, free translation andtransliteration, and zero translation is emphasized in this part. The last part is a conclusion tothe report.

1.2 Background of the Source Text
The source text used by this report is called Digital Art Techniques for Illustrators &Artists, which is written by Joel Lardner and Paul Roberts. 2. Word Formation of Computer English Terms in Digital Art Techniques forIllustrators & Artists

2.1 Compounding
Henry Bradley tells us the definition of compounding in The Making of English, “Acompound word is a word formed by joining two or more words to express a meaning thatcould be rendered by a phrase of which the simple words form part.”(1957).Compound words accounts for great proportion of computer English words, forcompounding has played an active role in word formation in the English language.Compositions can be employed almost without restriction to form new computer terms. When compounds are formed, the following points are noteworthy: when the two wordsare of the same grammatical category, the compound will still be this category, such aswebsite (noun + noun); sometimes, the two words belong to different categories.
