Chapter 1 Introduction

1.1 Research Background 
First  of  all,  the  author  makes  a  brief  introduction  to  the  contribution  of  humor researchers on humor study. Situation comedy is a comedy performance form, this form is generally believed that  appear  in  the  USA  broadcast  golden  age  (1920-1950),  now  it  has  got  wide acceptance  in  the  world.  In  many  countries,  sitcom  is  one  of  the  most  popular  TV shows.  It  is  a  good  way  to  relax  oneself.  Humor  is  the  soul  of  situation  comedy, humorous and witty language is the outstanding characteristic of sitcom, furthermore, it is an important magic weapon to attract the audiences’ eyes and raise the ratings. Situation  comedy  focuses  on  various  kinds  of  work  and  daily  life  scenes  of Anglo-American  people.  It  is  based  on  a  real  life,  which  contains  a  lot  of  western cultures  and  values,  situation  comedy  not  only  to  provide  English  learners  a  real language application environment, let them feel the thinking mode of westerners, but it  could  dispel  the  strangeness  of  learners.  It  can  help  people  directly  into  English thinking, language environment and better understanding the culture of different areas. It is a better way to master the foreign language for language learners.

1.2 Reasons for the Study 
Situation  comedy  appears  generally  in  the  American  broadcast  golden  age (1920--1950),  now  It  has  already  been  accepted  widely.  In  many  countries,  sitcom becomes one of the most popular TV show-----including China.
