The term capitalism describes an economic and social order in which society and its production is geared towards maximizing profits. Marxist economist Paul M. Sweezy contends: “The purpose of capitalist enterprise has always been to maximize profit, never to serve social ends” (86). 3.1 Eco-terrorist Activities: the Trainites’ Outrages

Starting with the conception of ecological terrorism, this section sets forth to analyze the eco-terrorist activities adopted by the Trainites to head off risks. With a reference to the ideology of deep ecology advocated by Austin Train, this section further reveals that the kernel of the eco-terrorist group drifts apart from Austin’s ideal of building a risk-free community in harmony with nature, albeit the latter is hailed as a set of guiding principles by the former. Therefore, far from achieving the ideal, eco-terrorism veering from the codes of deep ecology becomes a blight in the risk society.
