[Abstract] Because of different factors, especially the mother tongue---Chinese, many English learners in China are poor in English. Then how to improve spoken English and speak fluent and pure English becomes a big problem，though there are not a few ways. Nowadays, many facts have proved that English songs have a positive effect on English learning. There create a relaxing atmosphere, increase learners’ interest and build up their confidence. Additionally, because of positive influences of Music, the similarities between the rhythm of music and that of spoken English, and the advantages of English songs, English songs plat an important role in helping with correcting the pronunciation, remembering and accumulating vocabulary, learning foreign culture, and developing sensitivity to English that are all important to the improvement of spoken English. So in this paper the author brings forth a tentative idea, that is, to improve spoken English by using English songs. [摘要] 由于受各种因素的影响, 尤其是母语—汉语的影响,许多中国英语学习者英语口头表达能力普遍较差。于是，尽管方法也不少，但如何提高英语口语，讲一口流利地道的英语仍然是个不小的难题。如今，大量事实表明，英文歌曲对英语学习有着很大的帮助。英文不仅能够创造一种轻松愉快的气氛，而且还有利于提高学习者的兴趣，增强学习者的信心，从而促进英语学习。另外，音乐对学习有积极的一方面，音乐节奏年节奏具有某些共性，且英文歌曲有不少的优越性，英文歌曲可以帮助矫正英语语音，牢记和积累大量词汇，学习外国文化和培养英语语感等等，而这些方面都对英语口语的提高起着很大的促进作用。因此，本文提出了一个设想，即充分利用英文歌曲提高英语口语。 1. Introduction As the education reform develops in depth in China in recent years, the improvement of spoken English is coming to such a prominent position that more attention has to be paid to it. However, many English learners today are still speaking “Chinglish”, which greatly hinders their spoken English. As is known to all, the main purpose of learning a certain language is just to communicate. And successful communication needs better oral expression. As a second language in China, English is not so easy to master, especially spoken English. Whereas, if English learners use different kinds of effective means to practice their spoken English as possible as they can, then they are sure to make great progress and at last see a satisfactory result. As a matter of fact, at the very beginning of human society, when they got a big harvest or while they were working, laboring people of most of the nations expressed their happiness, anger, grief and joy by means of talking and singing in their own language, which later became the earliest simple folk tune. With the rapid development of human society, this kind of language art had been improved a lot, thus “songs” which now win great popularity among people cane into being. Obviously, most people love music and love songs. Now that since the earliest days, humans just like to express themselves with gongs, then why not take advantage of English songs to raise spoken English? 2. Theoretical foundation 1.1 Positive effects of music and importance of music intelligence 2.1.1 Positive effects of music Music, as one of the oldest forms of art, has many positive effects. Under a relaxing condition, our brain receives new information from outside to the greatest extent. “Scientists have found that the speed and rhythm of music not only can control, the rhythm of human body, but also has a direct influence on human brain. Pleasant melody can cheer up a person, make a person full of high spirit, and even bring out a person’s active mood, which can help the brain memorize things more quickly and help to keep them for a much longer time.”[1] Singing is an easy way of memorizing something. “Melody seems to act
