CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION
This is the first chapter of the thesis and it will be a brief introduction to the paper. The purpose and significance of this paper will be introduced. At the same time, the layout of this paper will be listed. According to the introduction, the reader could have a basic impression of this thesis.
1. 1 Introduction of the paper
The domain of morphology is from the Greek word, morph. Morphology is one of the branches of linguistics, especially the lexicology, which studies the internal structure and the rules of words, such as those having more than one meaningful element, and morphology is also the branches of grammar, but it focuses on the structure/ forms and kinds of the words. The essence of morphology is word-formation.
From the 1970s, Western morphologists have begun to lay stress on the inflection and derivatives of words because the Indo-European contributed greatly to the on grammar and vocabulary. Thus, two domains are divided: inflectional morphology and derivational morphology, and obviously the latter focus on lexicons. Derivational morphology is focussed on the process of word-formation in lexicology.
Linguists have considered consider morpheme, or word as the basic unit of morphology since the structural linguistics of Saussure. Morphological structure can be interpreted as the concatenation of morphemes. Morphemes and morphs are the results of research of the same language basic unit starts from lexical morphology and derivational morphology respectively.
However, the generativists believe that, if grammatical morphemes are located in the lexicon like words, then the rules will bind them as compound words. Generativists analyze words in the domain of morphology, while sentences in syntax. Generational morphology designs a morpheme based model: build a corpus, a series of morphemes operated under a set of word-formation rules, and the word-formation rules are morphological rules. Thus, morphology is actually the binding of syntax on one end and semantics on the other end. Among these, corpus is undoubtedly the frame of language study, deduction and elaboration.
Just as society develops, the developing of the society, words are change in form, pronunciation and so on. In the process, some words were never seen appear while some disappear. Based on this phenomenon, a conception of productivity emerged. Productivity is one of the key concepts of derivational morphology. It refers to the ability to construct new words of affixes or word-building rules. Productivity is 'used in linguistic to refer to the creative capacity of language users to produce and indefinitely large number of sentences.'(Crystal, 1991, p.279). Hockett (1985, p.575) gives the label productivity to that property of language which al本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
