      In the current business world, more and more global organisations (or even some well-established SMEs MBA) have built and developed well-organised and well-established supplier management systems to choose/control/maintain the best performance suppliers for the organistaions. Most of the time, they combined the supplier management function together with the overall procurement functions in order to achieve the overall lower procurement cost; however, the actual supplier management responsibility extend outside of the procurement function to all those dealing with supply (Dwyer 1987). Stolle (2008) has stated that purchasing was an idea that was developed long ago but has emerged to acquire a new reference, supply management. This notwithstanding, many companies that are in operations today have not emerged to move beyond the early stages of this transformation, from an entirely premeditated purchasing to strategic supplier management (Jahns, 2005).

      Bossert (2004) has stated that the supplier management is the process to learn, select, develop, use and control as well as maintain of suppliers for business management. Supplier management is very important for business management and operation, especially for retail business which has strong dependence on suppliers; it is essential factor for the business success. Beyond this, Chen (2004) has also mentioned that supplier management is a broad concept that relates to the management of individual supplier relations. However, Smock et al (2007) view it differently, where they argue that supplier management sets the focal point at the upstream portion of the supply chain by making sure that the organisation’s supply with the right commodity is always maintained. Roger holds the opinion that supplier management should sustain production as well as business strategy in consequence. On the other hand, from a process point of view, Branch (2008) perceives supplier management as comprising of three main steps. The first one being the selection of the supplier after which there is the evaluation how the supplier performs. Depending on the nature of the outcome, supplier development can then come in as the third step and last step. Frederick (2010) continues the debate on supplier management by arguing that the functions of purchasing are inherently attached to supplier management and thus supplier management includes the elements of purchasing.
