对比分析美国之音和中国中央人民广播电台的新闻语料
本研究有助于英汉语言节奏的对比研究，也有利于中国学生掌握正确的英语节奏。实验计算了选自美国之音新闻播音20个句子中各重音之间的时长和选自中国中央人民广播电台新闻播音20个句子中各音节的时长，然后分别计算出平均数、标准差和变异系数。
1.Introduction
1.1 The Significance of the Study
The world is full of rhythms:the beating of the heart,the tick-tock of clock,the changeof seasons,the melody of music,etc.Connected speech of certain language also has its specific rhythm. Every language has its own characteristic rhythm(Zhang Fengtong,1996:295).And rhythm,which plays a crucial part in language acquisition,is one of the important suprasegmental features(the others are stress and intonation). Chinese rhythm is quite different from that of English.The rhythmic differences between these two languages might cause difficulties to English learners whose native language is Chinese.
In the 21st Century,a good command of English is a new requirement for Chinese people because of the important position of the language in a globalized world.However,many Chinese learners of English are weak in speaking,which obviously can not meet the social needs of the contemporary era.Therefore,it is necessary to help them speak fluent English with correct rhythm.
Some studies have shown that misuse or lack of English rhythm in speech is a major
factor that inhibits communication.According to O’Connor(1967:57),rhythm plays a central role in language acquisition and competent language use.The rhythm of English is particular and the mastery of it is considered one of the most widely encountered difficulties for foreign learners of English.In China,English rhythm is one of the biggest challenges for Chinese learners of English(Bai Liru,2000).Many learners often misgroup phrasing,fail to link sounds,have irregular pausing,or making them sound strange and unnatural because of the influence of their mother tongue.In terms of their English rhythm,they tend to pronounce every sound in words clearly just as when they appear as individual words.
In other words, they are facing the problem of inappropriate rhythm of English in speech.If their inappropriate rhythm of English can not be changed,native speakers of English would find it difficult to concentrate for long because the speech sounds so unnatural.What is worse is that those students will find themselves unable to follow a native English speaker who speaks naturally.They can understand the words that are said clearly but may mistake those sounds strung together for new words.Thus,Wang Guizhen(1996)proposes that we must learn the speech rhythm of English.
