作者通过分析RCP中的典型翻译实例，对法律翻译实践提出了建议。根据RATA，翻译是一个语言选择的过程，以实现作者的交际意图与认知语境之间的最佳关联以及目标读者的预期接受。语言选择是通过适应不同的语境来选择合适的词汇或结构。在这一章中，我们将提出这一翻译研究的一些主要发现、局限性以及启示。此外，本文还对法律翻译的进一步研究提出了一些建议。

1    Introduction

1.1    Research

Background With the expansion of economic globalization and international exchange, the translation of laws and regulations becomes an essential channel for people to understand other countries’ social environment. 

Legal  translation  is  an  important  part  of  translatology.  To  produce  accurate  legal translation, we need to have the sufficient background knowledge and know how to make the right  choice  of  translation  methods  and  strategies  in  different  contexts.  Although  translating legal  documents  should  be  guided  by  the  general  principles  of  translation,  legal  translation especially needs to be guided by the principles of professionalization, rigorousness, accuracy and  equivalency [1].  Paying  attention  to these  particularities  will  help  improve  the  quality  of legal translation and raise awareness of the legislation on legal translation. 

Lexical  gap  and  context  deficiency  are  quite  common  in  intercultural  communication, and  so  are they  in  legal  translation.  In  the  past time,  most translators  have  paid  attention  to normalization,  legal  terms  and  passive  voice  of  legal  texts.  In  fact, translators  who  do  legal translation should make use of translators’ subjectivity based on cognitive contexts to launch pragmatic enrichment and compensate for the contextual meaning implied in the information, and  choose  appropriate  translation  strategies  and  methods  for  the  purpose  of  conveying  the author’s intention. Witczak-Plisiecka believed that the particular characteristics of legislative language are part of shared cognitive context for communicating parties [2].

1.2   Significance and Purpose of the Study

By this study, the thesis plans to find answers for the following three questions: 

Firstly, what implications does Relevance-Adaptation Theory have for legal translation? 

Secondly,  how contextual adaptation  is adopted to meet target readers’ expectations  for the most part?

Thirdly, how strategies of pragmatic enrichment and contextual compensation are used to achieve optimal relevance in legal translation? 

Relevance  Theory  and  Adaptation  Theory  have  deep  implications  in  the  translation  of legal texts both in theory and practice.
