1.1 Background of the Translation Task

This translation text is excerpted from Applying Psychology to Everyday Life.The author of thisbook is professor in psychology-Kenneth Strongman,who has been teaching psychology at theUniversity of Canterbury in New Zealand for 25 years.He is a member of the Royal Society of NewZealand,the British Psychological Association and the New Zealand Psychological Association.Heis currently the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canterbury and the Chairman of the NewZealand Humanities Council.He has published more than ten books.

The book consists of 19 chapters,which respectively introduce eight aspects of emotional life,inspirational life,social life,inner world,intelligence,life expectancy,healthy life,and overall life.The target readers of this book are beginners and students of psychology.Each chapter of the bookhas an introduction to psychology-related knowledge,as well as analysis of psychological problemswith specific cases in daily life.To a large extent,the book can help those people who arepsychologically confused.

1.2 Objectives of the Translation Task

The translation report is expected to attain the following objectives:

One of the objectives is to verify the guiding role of theory in translation practice.In thistranslation practice,the translator chooses Communicative Translation and Semantic Translation forguidance.Through the combination of theory and practice,the translator hopes to provide a Referencefrom the first to third chapters of Applying Psychology to Everyday Life with a high-qualitytranslation;translate the psychology text in target language that is fluent and conforms to the targetreader's reading habits;to promote readers'understanding of psychological knowledge for theiremotional problems in daily life.

The other objective is to improve the translator's skills and accumulate experience for futuretranslation practice.During this task,the translator can further understand the characteristics ofpsychology text,and the translation ability can also be improved.The experience accumulated in thistranslation task can also provide enlightenment for the translator’s future translation practice.

Chapter Two Process Description

2.1 Preparation before translation

In order to complete the translation task successfully,the translator analyzes the text before thetranslation.

2.1.1 Introduction of Source Text
