In this section, the author will present the distribution of the resources in the samples. In general, there are 267 sentences and 462 clips of videos in the samples. The latter is almost twice as much as the former. 

5.1.1 The distribution of linguistic resources of the samples

According to Halliday, mood can be classified into four basic speech roles: statement (giving information), question (demanding information), offer (giving goods-&-services) and command (demanding goods-&-services). Due to the controversy of the speech role of “offer”, therefore this chapter will not discuss it. Based on the standard proposed by SFL, if the finite is presented after the subject, then the sentence should be a declarative sentence, which can be called a statement. The structure of a statement can be written as: subject + finite; if the finite is presented before the subject, then the sentence should be an interrogative mood, which serves as a question, in addition, if the sentence is a WH-question, it serves as a question as well, the structure of a question can be written as: finite + subject or WH+ finite + subject or WH + subject + finite; if the subject absent, the finite present, or neither of the subject and finite present, the sentence shall be an imperative sentence, which serves as a command

6.1 Major findings of the present study

Firstly, the author would like to conclude the major findings on the distribution of the linguistic and visual resources.

In the distribution of linguistic resources, the mood, modality and person systems account for a certain proportion of the frequency. In terms of mood system, the most frequently used mood is declarative mood, followed by imperative mood and interrogative mood in automobile video ads. In terms of the distribution of modality, probability accounts for most of the proportion, followed by inclination and obligation. Low-value words of modality account for most of the usage in the samples, followed by median and high-value words of modality. Low-value words of modality occupy the major proportion of probability, high-value words of modality account for most of the samples in obligation, and median-value words of modality occupy the majority of the samples in inclination.
