1.1 Background of the Research

With  the  popularization  of computer  technology,  people tend  to  use logical thinking  to deal with various problems in life, which makes the application of mathematical models more and more extensive. The application of mathematical models not only plays an important role in the fields of natural science and engineering technology, but also penetrates into new areas such  as  management,  economy,  environment,  medicine,  finance,  biology  and  transportation. In  the  21st  century,  the  era  of  the  information  explosion,  modelling  has  moved  from  the back-up  of  the  national  economy  and  technology  to  the  forefront,  and  has  now  become  a crucial  component  of  contemporary  high-tech.  Therefore,  modelling-related  translation  has greatly promoted international communication and plays a significant role in the exchange of scientific  and  technological  achievements  among  countries.  As  a  special  style,  scientific English is a kind of language whose function is to carry scientific and technological thoughts (Jiang,  1983:  26).  Since  the  beginning  of  the  new  century,  the  activities  of  scientific translation  in  China  have  increased  day  by  day,  involving  practical  science,  social  science, natural  science  and  other  fields.  All  these  activities  have  spread  the  advanced  scientific knowledge of western countries and promoted the development of science and technology in China.  Nowadays,  translation  has  already  become  an  essential  part  of  the  development  of science  and  technology  in  our  country.  At  the  same  time,  theories  for  translation  are  also emerging one after another, among which the Skopos theory is highly influential.

1.2 Literature Review

Over the past half century, the study of scientific and technical translation has changed from experience to rationality, from depression to prosperity, and has gone through a process of  advancing  with China’s translation  cause  (Fang,  2002:  1).  The  translation  of  English  for Science and Technology (EST) in China has a history of more than one thousand years, but there are few research materials that have been completely preserved and handed down.
