摘要:本文是英语翻译论文,本文从厚翻译视阈下对张谷若译本《还乡》进行了分析,发现厚翻译策略主要以前序、文内释义和脚注的形式出现在张谷若译本中,并且作者从当时中国的社会意识形态、读者对象、张谷若的翻译思想以及文化差异讨论了厚翻译策略出现在张谷若译本中的原因。
the data of this thesis. Thus, the data enjoy a high degree of standard and accuracy, but the data in this thesis may be a little subjective because those examples are chosen by the author herself. In this thesis, from the perspective of thick translation, the author explores the strategies of thick translation which makes the translated work more available and more understandable for target readers. Chapter Two Literature Review
Zhang Guruo’s translations have been receiving great attention and have appealed lots of scholars to research on his translation styles, linguistic features, attitudes to translation and his unique and painstaking annotations as well, which are viewed to be unprecedented all the time. Up to now, a large number of theses and books have dedicated to describe his life, styles and principles of translation, translation works, particularly, his unique and detailed annotations. Although these added annotations gain both positive and negative remarks, approval and disapproval comments. Zhang’s translation of The Return of the Native is considered as a model work in the circle of translation.
2.1 An Introduction of Hardy’s The Return of the Native
The Return of the Native is Hardy’s sixth published novel, and firstly it was emerged in Belgravia, a famous magazine in London. Soon afterwards, The Return of the Native came out in twelve monthly installments in 1878. It was Hardy’s first attempt to write tragedy novel, and fortunately it was regarded as the first tragic and significant novel. The publishing of this novel created much of a stir in 1878. Even certain commentators view The Return of the Native as Hardy’s best-known novel. It is also one of the Wessex Novels, a vivid one with deep-seated ideological substance and dramatic scene (Zhang Ling, 1995). Egdon Heath provides the backdrop for the novel where the intricate love story around five young people takes place. Hardy is an expert in environmental and psychological description which is evidently shown when narrating the complicated love story in the certain environment, for instance, the heath. In addition, the conversations in the novel are vivid which make the figures lively with the psychological depiction.

2.2 Translators and Translations of The Return of the Native
According to the popularity of Hardy’s The Return of the Native, many translators and scholars attempt to translate it.
