Roll-to-Roll Manufacturing Process for Full Color Electrophoresis Film

Abstract
We 英国留学生电子科技论文 report the process development work on roll-to-roll fabrication of EPD film that enables the making of full color Redisplay. Through the incorporation of inkjet printing process, Microcup® web can be printed with colored fluids to form designated color pattern at sub pixel level. Existing roll-to-rollMicrocup® EPD manufacturing process can be modified to accommodate the printing step and the processes can be coordinated in such to prevent the mixing of different colored fluids during web processing.

1. Introduction
The operation principle of full color Microcap® display was proposed in 2003[1]. Taking advantage of the microcupregularity, RGB colored EPD fluids can be placed into microcupsindividually to correspond to the RGB sub-pixels on the active matrix backplane. One can use a “Dual-Mode” active matrix backplane to modulate the particles in the microcap through both up-down and side-by-side motions to create white, colored, and black states at pixel level. Figure 1 illustrates the color statesMicrocup® EPD can create using Dual-Mode TFT backplane.

 

 

 

Commercial monochromic Microcap® EPD film is currently manufactured through a roll-to-roll process [2]. The making offend film that containing RGB colored fluids at sub-pixel level was considered a challenge. We propose in this work to combine precision inkjet printing technology and existing roll-to-roll EPDfilm making process to manufacture full color EPD film. Compatibility of materials and process steps will be discussed here.
