5.1 Research Findings
By virtue of the English vocabulary test, questionnaire survey, and teachingexperiment for the students in Class 1 Grade 5 and Class 2 Grade 5 of NalinxiliPrimary School, the research findings are as follows.
To begin with, the story teaching method can improve rural primary schoolstudents’ interest in English vocabulary learning and diversify their Englishmnemonics. Before the experiment, students were less inclined to learn Englishvocabulary by telling stories, making up stories, acting out stories, and retellingstories but rather by rote . Maybe they can do well in recent English tests but over afew weeks, students often forget the previously learnt words as they learn new wordslater. The teacher uses the story-telling method to teach vocabulary, which creates acontext for students to learn vocabulary based on the experience of the story plot.After the experiment, most of the students used short stories to create, retell, and playout stories to memorize and strengthen vocabulary. Through the story teachingexperiment of English vocabulary, primary school students’ interest in vocabularymemory has been remarkably improved.
Second, the story teaching method can improve rural primary school students'English vocabulary learning performance. The story teaching method has its uniqueadvantages. Pupils are naturally interested in stories, and story teaching tends toattract their attention and cultivate their interest in vocabulary learning. Studentslearning English in context can help them improve on vocabulary tests. Before theexperiment, the overall English level of the two classes was equal. After theexperiment, the vocabulary scores of the experimental class have been continuouslyimproved. After the experiment, the average score of the English vocabulary of theexperimental class was higher than that of the control class.
