本文是一篇英语翻译论文题目，笔者认为目标文本和原文之间的绝对对等很难实现，译文偏离原文形式是一种非常普遍的现象。根据卡特福德的翻译理论，基于英汉差异，译者分析了翻译实践中的层次转换和范畴转换现象。由于卡特福德的翻译理论不涉及文本转换和文体转换，译者在翻译过程中也采用了其他翻译方法来实现这两个层面的转换。
Chapter 1 Introduction

1.1 Description of the Translation Task

The source text of the report is selected from a book named Internet of Things (IoT): Technologies, Applications, Challenges, and Solutions, which provides readers with a detailed introduction to IoT technologies, applications, challenges faced, and solutions to challenges in certain areas. And it is published by the Taylor & Francis Group in London in 2018 and edited by two writers, B.K. Tripathy and J. Anuradha. As an important IoT work, the book is helpful for readers to know more about artificial intelligence, IoT-enabled vision system, user authentication and so on. There are fourteen independent chapters included in this book. 

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a subject of much attention these days. IoT is all about various devices or anything with embedded sensors that can be interconnected and communicated. The advancement in technology is to serve the society. IoT has a wide range of applications from health care to industry where the solutions are brought to people to deal with chaos in their daily lives. But till now, few people realize the importance of IoT, even they have no idea about it. With the purpose of raising people’s awareness of IoT, the translator translates the sixth and eighth chapter of this book. 

The sixth chapter is on “User Authentication: Keystroke Dynamics with Soft Biometric Features” which provides an overview of a much safer and more efficient user identification technology. Here users are not only identified by the password, but their typing style is also accounted for. In the eighth chapter, it gives an introduction to aspects of ambient assisted living and its applications. AAL consists of technical systems, infrastructure, and services to support elderly people to have an independent lifestyle through seamless integration of automated home appliances and its communicating devices. 

1.2 Significance of the Translation Task

IoT English text is highly specialized and contains many professional terms. Its characteristics are different from other types of English Texts. Therefore, studying the characteristics of the source text and mastering the purpose of IoT text are the first step to promote the development of the translation industry and IoT. Secondly, according to the language characteristics of this text, the translator chooses the proper translation theory and puts forward the translation strategy of scientific English text to avoid the untranslatability of mutual conversion between different languages and solve the difficulties in the translation process. Therefore, the translation of this text has important practical significance. 

As the third wave of the development of the world’s information industry, the Internet of things (IoT) has brought an unprecedented intellectual revolution to mankind. People’s thirst for IoT knowledge is also increasing, and most researchers need to be aware of and concerned about the development and technology of IoT in the world. However, there are few translated texts in this field in China.
