摘要:本文是一篇英语翻译论文,记者面临着三方面的问题。第一个问题是缺乏背景知识,包括不熟悉演讲者的学术背景和术语。第二个问题是在源文本结构松散和说话人语速加快的情况下,应对突发情况的能力不足。第三个问题是对习语的解释缺乏经验。

笔者认为记者应该从说话者的学术背景和术语两方面准备背景知识。此外,为了提高对突发事件的处理能力,在原文结构松散的情况下,记者应进行逻辑分析,使用连接词;在说话人语速加快的情况下,记者还应减轻心理压力,关注关键词。最后也是最重要的一点,记者可以采用解释理论来解释习语。

Chapter One Project Survey



1.1 The Second IASS-AIS–NNUAdvanced Semiotics Workshop

The IASS-AIS–NNU Advanced Semiotics Workshop aims to promote further exchange ofopinions and ideas in the global semiotics circle, by presenting the latest researchachievement in semiotics to the world and facilitating the combination of research andapplication. IASS (The International Association for Semiotic Studies) and NNU (NanjingNormal University) work together to put forward the international semiotic event, TheIASS-AIS–NNU Advanced Semiotics Workshop, every year. This initiative containsdiscussions of comprehensive semiotics topics and academic speeches presenting theresearch achievement of experts in this field. This new plan can be considered as anopportunity to gather global semioticians and to serve as a platform for all semioticscholars to exchange their opinions.

The First IASS-AIS–NNU Advanced Semiotics Workshop was started on SuiyuanCampus of NNU on July 2, 2018. More than 40 professors, doctors and graduatesparticipated in the workshop among which ten semioticians from China and overseasdelivered their keynote speeches at the workshop.

From July 5 to 7, 2019, The Second IASS-AIS–NNU Advanced Semiotics Workshopwas held on Suiyuan Campus of NNU. Over 120 scholars including professors andgraduate students from China, Argentina, Japan, Korea and many other countries attendedthe event and exchanged extensively on academic knowledge and culture. During the3-day workshop, ten semioticians including the Secretary General from the InternationalSemiotics Association and professors from several universities made keynote speeches toshare their latest research achievements with the participants.

1.2 The interpreting project

1.2.1 The speakers

The reporter was mainly responsible for the simultaneous interpretation of five keynotespeeches during this semiotics workshop. Besides, she interpreted the introductions tosome of the keynote speakers. One of the keynote speakers was:

Professor Xiang3

Professor Xiang is the editor-in-chief of a world-renowned semiotics journal, editor ofthe column of “Semiotics Section” of a language magazine, and an executive committeemember of IASS-AIS.

His keynote speech was entitled with “A Bakhtinian approach to inter-subjectiveforeign language Education.” From the perspective of semiotics, he explored theadvantages and disadvantages of the teacher-centered teaching mode and thestudent-centered teaching mode. The purpose of his speech was to establish aninter-subjective teaching mode by which teachers and students are of equal importance inthe classroom.

1.2.2 The tasks and requirements for the reporter

During the 3-day event regarding semiotics, the reporter’s job was to offer simultaneousinterpreting service for keynote speeches. Apart from the main speeches, the simultaneousinterpreting service also covered the introductory speech and the Q&A sessions, as statedbelow:
